If it's time for your child to start kindergarten or you have one who needs a positive change, please consider the York Academy!

Applications are being accepted for the 2023-2024 school year until March 31 for students entering kindergarten through ninth grade. Please note that children must be five years old by August 31 to start kindergarten and we do not offer a Pre-K program.

Make sure to fully complete the application process by March 31 so your child will be included in the Lottery on April 3. Scroll down to find out what information is required and to learn about the Academy and the Lottery process.  We also invite you to come to an upcoming Admissions Information Session.

Thank you for your interest in the York Academy Regional Charter School!

Preparing for the Application Process

When you are completing the application, you will need to upload photos of two proofs of residency that reflect your child's home address.

Examples of the first proof of residency:
A copy of your rental lease agreement or home purchase agreement, 2022 tax bill, 2022 school property taxes, W2, 1040 or a notarized letter stating the parent's address and that the child resides there.

Examples of the second proof of residency are:

A copy of your driver's license  pay stub, utility bill (ex. water, sewer, electricity), insurance card (ex. auto) or bank statement.

Providing this information is very important. If your application is not successfully submitted with all the necessary information by March 31, your child will not be included in the Lottery.  We want to make sure that everyone is included, and we are happy to help you.

About York Academy

We’re accepting applications for students entering K-9th grade until March 31, and we invite you to apply. York Academy is a diverse tuition-free public school that provides a stellar, well-rounded education focused on preparing students for college and beyond.

Through the challenging International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, our caring, qualified educators will empower your children to be lifelong learners who thrive and make a difference. They will build their critical thinking skills, nurture their curiosity, and develop intercultural understanding and respect for others.

York Academy’s progressive performing and visual arts opportunities cultivate creativity and self-expression. In addition, our innovative design technology coursework is unique to the International Baccalaureate curriculum and focuses on holistic problem solving using the design cycle. Both programs are unique compared to other area traditional public schools.

We're proud that our Lower School (K-6) is ranked as one of the top five charter elementary schools in PA by U.S. News & World Report. In addition, all 12 of the seniors in our first graduating class (2022) were accepted into college and they received over $240K in scholarships. Plus, 91% of the class qualified as National Merit Scholars and one graduate was a Finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Competition, an impressive achievement. As a result, she received a full scholarship and attends Vanderbilt College. Other graduates attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Haverford College, and Temple University.

In just a few months, we will graduate the 20 seniors in our second graduating class. We can't wait to celebrate their accomplishments and send them off to make an impact in the world!

Lottery Information

The York Academy was established as a nonprofit public school in 2011. We are  chartered by Central York, York City and York Suburban School Districts. Parents may apply each year from February 1 - March 31. We encourage families to apply during that time so their children will be included in the annual Lottery. The 2023-24 Lottery will be held on Monday, April 3 at 5:30 p.m. It will be live streamed on our YouTube Channel.

Each grade is filled with a specific number of students, selected by lottery. Priority is given to siblings of current students and to those who reside in our three chartering districts. If the available openings are not filled by these students, children from other districts are offered admission. Any additional students are placed on a waiting list. Currently, a total of 14 school districts in 26 zip codes are enrolled at the York Academy. Parents may apply after March 31, but their children will be added to the end of the waiting list.

If an opening becomes available throughout the school year, parents will receive an email. They must choose to decline or accept placement (attend York Academy or not) within five days. If they decline, the seat is offered to the next child on the waiting list, and so on.
