The York Academy Visual Arts Program

If you love to draw, paint, design, sculpt, photograph, or express your creativity in new ways, York Academy's Visual Arts program offers countless opportunities to develop your artistic talents. Our well-equipped art studios provide students with the space, materials, technology, and encouragement to experiment with a variety of artistic techniques and media. More importantly, our dedicated art teachers create a welcoming and supportive environment where students are encouraged to explore their creativity, take artistic risks, and develop their own unique style.

Throughout the year, students have numerous opportunities to showcase their work and celebrate their accomplishments. Signature events include the MYP Art Show, DP Visual Arts Preview, and the Senior Art Exhibition, where students proudly display original works for classmates, families, and the community. Students also participate in collaborative events such as Chalk the Walk, transforming campus sidewalks into vibrant works of art while celebrating creativity and school spirit.

York Academy artists also have the opportunity to exhibit their work beyond campus. Students in grades 9–12 are encouraged to participate in the York County Senior Exhibition (YCASE), a prestigious county-wide art competition and exhibition hosted by York College of Pennsylvania and Marketview Arts. Students also participate in enriching experiences such as the DP Visual Arts trip to Philadelphia, where they visit museums, galleries, and cultural landmarks that inspire new ideas, broaden their artistic perspectives, and deepen their appreciation for the visual arts.

Whether you're an experienced artist or enjoy being creative, York Academy provides the resources, guidance, and opportunities to help you grow as an artist. Here, creativity is celebrated, individuality is encouraged, and every student has the chance to discover the artist within.

Music at York Academy

Do you love to sing, play an instrument, write music, or perform on stage? At York Academy, you'll have plenty of opportunities to discover and grow your musical talents. Whether you're just beginning your musical journey or already have experience, our music program encourages students to explore their creativity through performance, composition, and digital music production. Students learn to play contemporary instruments such as guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and vocals while building confidence, teamwork, and musicianship in a fun, collaborative environment.

As students progress through the grades, they have opportunities to perform in a variety of ensembles and concerts, including Modern Band, Jazz Band, Band and Orchestra Pops Concerts, student recitals, and our popular Modern Band Concerts. Talented musicians may also be selected to represent York Academy in the York County Student Music Festival, where they perform alongside outstanding student musicians from schools throughout the county. Middle and high school students can also audition for York County Honors Band, providing another opportunity to challenge themselves and perform at a high level.

At York Academy, music is about more than learning notes and rhythms. It's about building confidence, expressing yourself, collaborating with others, and creating memories that last a lifetime. Whether you're performing on stage, composing your own music, or learning a new instrument, you'll discover that music is an exciting part of student life at York Academy.
