College-Bound Senior Summer Checklist

This checklist covers the most common tasks seniors should complete between high

 school graduation and the start of college.

 

Admissions & Enrollment

☐ Submit enrollment/commitment deposit by the college's deadline

☐ Create and regularly check your college email account

☐ Set up your student portal and multi-factor authentication

☐ Review and complete all admitted-student requirements

☐ Submit final high school transcript (Mr. O will do this the first week of June)

☐ Submit any required IB scores (Mrs. Riggs will do this as well)

☐ Verify residency status if required by your state or institution

Financial Aid & Billing

☐ Accept, reduce, or decline federal student loans

☐ Accept merit- and need-based grants and scholarships

☐ Understand scholarship renewal requirements (minimum GPA, credit hours, etc.)

☐ Review work-study eligibility and application procedures

☐ Set up authorized users (parents/guardians) for billing access (if desired)

☐ Review tuition bill and payment deadlines

☐ Enroll in a payment plan (if needed)

☐ Pay any required tuition or registration deposits

☐ Purchase or waive student health insurance (if applicable)

 

Housing & Dining (if living on campus)

☐ Submit housing application

☐ Pay housing deposit

☐ Complete roommate questionnaire/profile

☐ Select roommate

☐ Review housing assignment

☐ Choose meal plan/dining plan

☐ Review move-in dates and procedures

☐ Learn residence hall rules and policies

☐ Determine what items are permitted/not permitted in residence halls

* Coordinate with roommate to avoid duplicate purchases

 

Health & Medical Requirements

☐ Submit immunization records

☐ Complete health history forms

☐ Submit required physical examination forms

☐ Submit vaccination documentation history

☐ Complete the following vaccinations MMR, MenACWY, Tdap, Chickenpox, and Hep B (if required by your institution).

☐ Other commonly recommended vaccinations include MenB, HPV, Influenza, and Covid-19 (if required by your institution).

☐ Upload health insurance information

☐ Arrange prescription transfers if moving away from home

☐ Schedule annual medical, dental, and vision appointments before leaving for college

☐ Obtain copies of important medical records

Orientation & Academic Preparation

☐ Register for new student orientation

☐ Attend required orientation sessions

☐ Complete any online orientation modules

☐ Take placement exams (math, reading/writing, science, foreign language, etc.)

☐ Meet with an academic advisor and career counselor

☐ Review degree requirements

☐ Register for fall classes

☐ Review your class schedule including dates and times

☐ Learn how to access the course registration system

☐ Understand add/drop/withdraw deadlines

☐ Purchase or rent required textbooks

 

Technology Setup

☐ Learn to use the learning management system (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, etc.)

☐ Download required campus apps

☐ Ensure laptop meets school requirements

☐ Transportation & Logistics

☐ Confirm move-in date and time

☐ Arrange transportation to campus

☐ Obtain parking permit (if bringing a car)

☐ Learn campus transportation options

☐ Plan travel arrangements for holidays and breaks

☐ Update driver's license, registration, and insurance (if applicable)

☐ Locate nearby urgent care, hospital, pharmacy, grocery store, and shopping mall

 

Campus Involvement & Employment

☐ Explore student organizations and clubs

☐ Research undergraduate work-study, independent study, and research opportunities

☐ Apply for on campus jobs (if interested)

☐ Explore leadership programs and learning communities

☐ Sign up for welcome-week events

☐ Join social media groups or admitted-student communities

 

Personal and Financial Preparation

☐ Memorize and securely store important account passwords

☐ Gather important documents:

  • Birth certificate
  • Social Securitycard
  • Passport (if applicable)
  • Driver's license/state ID
  • Health insurance card

☐ Consider granting parents/guardians FERPA access (if desired)

☐ Create a basic budget for the year

☐ Open a bank account near campus and sign up for a debit card

☐ Talk to your family about signing up for a credit card and managing it responsibly
